Standing Outside the Door (Luke 13:22-30)

The religious elite in Jesus’ day were guilty of many sins—hypocrisy, self-righteousness, pride, and so on—but one of the most deadly was the sin of presumption (Rom. 2:4). Claiming to be the physical descendants of Abraham, they presumed that they belonged to the people, the kingdom, of God; this is why the call to repentance and faith in the Christ was so repulsive to them. Yet Jesus was clear that to reject him as Lord meant to reject the only way of salvation (John 14:6; Rom. 10:4) and to be left standing outside the feast of the Master (Luke 13:28-30). In this sermon, Pastor Dave declares the profound truth that mere outward contact with Jesus or his church doesn’t save, and that some who are first will be last and some who are last will be first.
