Pastor Dave Leandre

Our History

Elmira Christian Center (ECC) was founded in August 1944 in Elmira, NY by “Brother” John Bedzyk.  His vision for the church was simply to preach the gospel and make disciples in the community and the surrounding cities. Thanks to God’s grace and faithfulness, the church flourished and eventually moved to its current location on East Miller Street in 1951 to accommodate the growth. After John Bedzyk died in 2004, the church was led by several interim pastors until Dave Leandre became the lead pastor in 2014, as the church celebrated its 70th anniversary. Since then, Brother John’s grandson, Matt Bedzyk, and Tim Matthews have joined the pastoral staff to assist in the teaching, discipleship, and outreach of ECC.

Throughout the existence of our church, we have seen God’s faithfulness at every step along the way and have experienced much gospel fruit, all to the praise and glory of our triune God. Join us as we continue to preach the gospel, make disciples, and change our community!

Who We Are

We can be described as evangelical and reformed.

Evangelical. This means we affirm, proclaim, and rejoice in the good news of Jesus Christ: his life, death, and resurrection. We embrace such doctrines as the authority, inerrancy, and sufficiency of Scripture, the Trinity, salvation by grace through faith, and the necessity of repentance and the new birth. At ECC, it is all about the gospel.

Reformed. This means our theological heritage and identity is that of the 16th century Protestant Reformation. We affirm the five solas of the Reformation—that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone, and that the church is to always be reformed according to Scripture alone.
