A Question About Christ (Luke 20:41-44)

In the Old Testament, the Messiah (or Christ) was understood to be the anointed king through whom God would establish his kingdom on earth. Israel was anxiously awaiting this coming king who would conquer his enemies and rule the nations in righteousness. Moreover, one of the distinguishing marks of this long-expected Messiah was that he would be a descendant of David (2 Samuel 7:12-16). But Jesus, quoting Psalm 110:1 to his opponents, suggests that if David calls him ‘Lord,’ then the Christ must be more than merely the son of David. In this sermon, Pastor Matt shows how Jesus Christ is both David’s son and Lord because he is the eternal Son of God, seated at God’s right hand in power, and considers its stunning implications for our lives today.
