Acts 4 recounts the first of many instances of persecution experienced by the followers of Jesus. Here, Peter and John find themselves on trial before the very men who had accused and condemned their Lord. Yet they faithfully bear witness to Jesus, declaring that “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). That Jesus is the only way to God produces anger and resentment in many; they prefer a more affirming God. Even Christians are often ashamed of the exclusivity of Christ. In this sermon, Mitch Bedzyk reminds us that the salvation found in Christ alone should amaze us, and that persecution simply cannot stop the kingdom of God.
