For many, if not most, of us, these days are unprecedented. Our country is basically implementing a lockdown to help “flatten the curve” and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Out of our love for God and neighbor, we are happily complying with the government’s regulations and have decided to temporarily cease gathering as a local congregation during this pandemic.
During this season of isolation it is important for us to be aware of the unique opportunities we have for reflection and growth. We should consider how to make the best use of our time in quarantine and how we can remain faithful and obedient to the Lord Jesus (cf. Eph 5:15-17).
Online Sermon Videos
Over the next few weeks we will be posting a devotional sermon video on Facebook each Sunday morning, since we are unable to gather together. This will be a time for us as a church to read and reflect on Scripture, to be encouraged by the Word, and to be reminded of the gospel of grace. These videos should be available by 10am.
Don’t Waste Your Lockdown
Here are some ways to make the most of this time of isolation
- Reflect on your spiritual state. Use this time to take inventory of the fears and idols in your life. Consider and assess your reactions to news as it breaks: is your response one of fear or faith?
- Cultivate habits of grace. The world will use this time to binge watch Netflix, but this is a perfect opportunity for us to spend time in the Bible and in prayer, to read spiritually edifying resources, and to implement family worship.
- Care for those in need when possible. Consider the ways you can help the members of our congregation and your neighbors. Check in on them through calls, texts, and apps like Facetime.
- Long For the Gathering of the Local Church. May this time make us appreciate and long for the time when we can gather together again as a body of believers.
