Jesus has given elders (or pastors) as gifts to lead, feed, protect, and nurture the church. They shepherd the flock by authoritative biblical teaching, oversight, and being examples (Acts 20:18-35; 1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4).
*In an effort to be more faithful to the biblical pattern of an elder-led congregation (Tit 1:5; Acts 14:23; 20:17), we have launched a residency program for men in our church discerning a call to gospel ministry (2 Tim 2:2). The goal of this residency is to equip pastors for the local church by training them in the context of the local church, providing an opportunity for focused teaching, mentoring, growth in godliness, and gospel-driven service.
Matt Bedzyk has been recognized as an elder by our congregation and serves as the lead pastor at Elmira Christian Center. He has been faithfully serving at ECC in many capacities for most of his life and is committed to seeing others grow in their delight in God and knowledge of his Word. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Matt and his wife Brianna have two children: Lorien Grace and Owen James. In his spare time, you can find him reading, playing music, enjoying coffee, and supporting Manchester United.
Deacons and Administrative Staff
Deacons are servants that oversee specific areas of practical service in the church. They care for its physical and fiscal needs, work to create unity in the body, and support the work of the pastors and elders. These servants have been recognized as deacons by our congregation (Acts 6:1-6; 1 Timothy 3:8–13).
