The Vineyard of the Lord (Isaiah 5:1-30)

Isaiah begins chapter 5 singing a love song for his Beloved concerning his vineyard. Isaiah’s Beloved is the Lord his God; the vineyard is Israel (Isa. 5:7). But despite God’s loving care and faithful protection, his vineyard did not produce good fruit. Instead, they produced bitter grapes due to the corruption of their sinful hearts. Because of this, God would allow his vineyard to be devoured, yet this wouldn’t be the end of his vineyard. In this sermon, Pastor Matt teaches that apart from the transforming grace of God in Christ, we will not bear the fruit of righteousness. If we refuse to obey the word of the Lord and reject his love, we will perish. But if we repent of our sin and abide in Christ Jesus by faith—who is the true vine—then we will bear the fruit God desires.
